Annual backflow testing — what you need to know
Why you're being asked for this
A backflow preventer stops water in your building's plumbing from flowing
backwards into the public water main. Illinois requires that these assemblies be
tested every year by a certified inspector, and your village keeps the record.
If yours lapses, the village hears about it before you do.
Do I have one?
Almost certainly, if your property has any of these:
- A lawn irrigation system
- A fire sprinkler line
- A boiler or chiller
- Any commercial water connection — restaurants, salons, car washes, medical
If you're not sure, call (224) 555-0134. We'll tell you in a
minute, and there's no charge for the question.
Booking
Use the booking page. You'll pick your
village first, then a two-hour arrival window on a day we're already working in
your area.
Why can't I pick any day? Because we work by territory. Showing
you only the days we're already in your village is what lets us keep the window
we gave you — instead of being an hour late because the previous job was
twenty-five miles away.
Before we arrive
- We need to reach the assembly. If it's behind a locked door,
in a crawlspace, or behind stored goods, tell us when you book.
- Water is off at the device for a few minutes during the test.
If that's a problem for a tenant or a process, say so.
- Tell us about gate codes and site contacts. It's the single
thing that decides whether the visit takes ten minutes or forty.
What happens on the day
A certified tester gauges the assembly. Most visits take under half an hour. You
don't need to be there if we can get access.
If it fails
Failures are common and usually cheap — a rubber kit, a fouled check. We'll
quote the repair, and once it's fixed we retest and file both halves on one
report: it failed, this was done, it passed.
After the test
- We file the report with your village in whatever system they use.
- You get a copy — sign in
to download it any time.
- You get an invoice. You can pay it in the portal.
- We remind you next year, 30, 14 and 7 days before it's due,
with a link that books the next one.
Signing in
There's no password. Type your email address on the
sign-in page and we email you a
link. You use this twice a year — a password you set in March is a password
reset in September, so we skipped it.
